Cockkatoo Large Australian Parrot

Sulpur-Crested Cockatoo

A Cockatoo is a very large parrot. It can be up to 38 cm (15 in) in length.

It is quite common in Australia.

Cockatoos are mostly white in colour but there are some which are pink or black too. They have long feathers on their head called a "crest". They fluff these feathers up sometimes.

They have very strong big bent beaks. They use their beaks for breaking open nuts and seeds which they eat. They also eat roots and grubs (which are insects).

They can live for up to 50 years.

Some people train Cockatoos to talk. They don't really talk. They can say just a few words.
